Can I strip floors with the acrylic finish?

Absolutely.  Acrylic is strippable and needs to be periodically stripped to keep your floor looking glossy and polished.

How often do I buff?

High traffic areas typically need to be treated with our buffing process more frequently.  Once you start to see heel marks, scuffs and smudges that is a good indicator that your floor needs to be buffed. 

Is acrylic slippery when wet?

Our acrylic finishes meet the standards regarding the slip resistant requirements laid out by the American National Standards Institute.  However, any floor can be potentially slippery when wet.

How long will acrylic floors last?

The average lifespan of an acrylic floor lasts about one year.  This is only an estimate and depends on the floor’s finish, traffic and maintenance.

Does acrylic have a span odor during the application?

Acrylic flooring has a slight odor when it is being applied but goes away soon thereafter. 

Isn’t acrylic finish expensive?

Acrylic finish tends to be less expensive than the other finishes that we offer.  However, several coats may be necessary to achieve high gloss and floor protection.  Meeting with a Floorite technician can help you sort through all of your options regarding our packages. 

Will applying acrylic void my manufacturer’s warranty on the floor?

It’s always best to consult your warranty because applying a finish might void it.  However, if your floor is showing wear and tear most warranties do not cover that.  It is always best to protect your floor with a thin coat of acrylic finish because it helps preserve it against scratches and abrasion. 

Isn’t it hard to fix an area that is damaged?

On the contrary, it is not hard at all to fix a scratch on an acrylic floor.  Often scratches can be spray buffed or burnished so the scratch is fixed completely or hardly seen.  A Floorite technician will be happy to give you an estimate.  Call today!

Will furniture scratch floors with acrylic finish?

It is always best to have furniture fitted with proper floor protectors to protect the acrylic finish from getting scratched.

How long will it take to have my floors coated with acrylic?

There are several factors to consider when giving a time estimate for coating a floor.  It depends on the condition of the current floor, how many coats are required and how many repairs, if any, are needed.  Also, if the existing floor needs to be stripped of its current coat that adds time as well.  A customized estimate is carefully determined for each client.

Will the application of acrylic disrupt my business?

We always work around our client’s schedule.  It is important that all services rendered are convenient for you.  We are able to work after hours and also work in sections if we need to work while you are open.  Our goal is to minimize any disruption to your establishment.

Does acrylic finish yellow?

Our acrylic finish does not yellow but keeps your floor protected from scratches and scuffs.

Can I use household cleaning products on my floors?

Yes you can, but you have to be careful that it is not a high alkaline or alcohol based product.  It is best to use a neutral cleaning solution that is best suited for acrylic finishes. 

How often do I clean my floors?

The amount of traffic on the floor will determine how often you should clean it.  You never want the floor to appear dirty so it is best to maintain it before it gets to that point.  We recommend dry mopping it with a microfiber cloth and then damp mopping it with an acrylic friendly cleaning agent.

When will I be able to walk on my floors?

One hour after the last coat is applied you are able to walk on the floor.  However, we suggest a full 24 hours drying time before heavy traffic hits it.

Will the application process produce dust?

Because our processes are done wet and or damp we significantly reduce any dust.

I think my floor’s appearance should be improved, but I’m concerned about the price. What should I do?

 It is important to maintain your floor so the damage and appearance doesn’t get worse.  It will only continue to deteriorate making your cost continually go up.  The most cost effective way to improve your floors appearance and protect it is with an acrylic finish.

How do I maintain this floor after the acrylic application?

It would be our honor to take this burden off of your hands.  Leave the cleaning to us.  We offer daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly cleaning options.  We can customize a plan that works for your schedule and budget.  However, if you have to clean the floor yourself, sweep it first, then dry mop with a microfiber cloth and lastly wet mop with a neutral cleaning agent so you don’t damage the floor. 

Do I need to do anything prior to the technician arriving for my scheduled service?

It is best that you remove any valuable and breakable items from the tops of all furniture.  There should be no items on the floor such as trash cans, decor and area rugs.  It is also good to sweep, dust and mop away all debris. 

Do I have to move furniture?

Please move any furniture that is able to be moved prior to us coming.  We can work around heavier items like bookshelves, filing cabinets and desks.  If you have any concerns please contact your Floorite technician before your appointment.

Are there instructions to follow after my hard-surface floors are cleaned?

 It is best to allow 24 hours to make sure that your finish has completely cured before heavy traffic is able to walk on it.  It is also best to wait that amount of time before getting the floor wet.  Allow at least 12 hours before moving furniture  and area rugs back in place.  It is best to move furniture with felt moving pads.

Can I strip floors with urethane finish?

A Urethane finish is definitely able to be stripped from a floor.  However, when the finish is worn in can be abraded and recoated without having to be stripped.  Floorite has products that are designated specifically for this purpose.  Call for a free consultation.

How often do I buff?

We never advise urethane finishes to be buffed because it can diminish the glossy finish.

Is urethane slippery when wet?

Any finished floor has the tendency to be slippery but according to the American National Standards Institute, our urethane product is considered slip resistant.  At Floorite we have additives that can be combined with finishes to produce slip resistant finishes that reduce the risk of slipping and falling when wet.

How long will urethane floors last? 

Typically urethane finishes last 2 years, however the longevity of this finish is contingent upon traffic, floor maintenance and cleaning practices. 

Does urethane have a span odor during application?

Urethane finishes have a clean almost undetectable scent because they have no VOCs or solvents which are typically the source of odors and harmful vapors.

Isn’t urethane more expensive than a traditional acrylic finish?

It all depends on how you look at it.  Yes urethane finishes tend to be more expensive than acrylic finishes per square footage,  however they tend to endure wear and tear better and in turn last longer.  To that end, you do see a return in your upfront investment because you would see a decrease in ongoing maintenance.

Once the urethane finish is applied it only requires basic cleaning averaging two years.  No buffing or recoating is required during that time and when reapplied there will be no need for stripping.  This makes any disruptions if any very minimal.

Does urethane finish yellow?

Our urethane does not yellow because it is UV resistant.
